Course contents

In its first part the course deals with an analysis of a masterpiece of the Italian literature, the Decameron. The text will be examinated in its historical context as well as a new way of the narrative, a prominent and successful pattern that many literary genres (novels, tales, theatre, poems) will imitate through the ages. The second part of the course is devoted to some Renaissance tales (both comic and tragic) which can be considered renewals and original interpretations of the pattern of Boccaccio's Decameron.
