Course contents

Pre and probiosis definitions; practical application of pre and probiotic in animal and human nutrition; Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium spp and their use as probiotics; intestinal in vitro fermentations as a tool to study the efficacy of probiotics and feed additives; definition of intestinal metabolites critical in understanding the intestinal microflora evolution; classical methods of enumeration of lactic acid bacteria; fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) to enumerate Lactobacillus cluster.
