Learning outcomes

The students must have knowledge of basal reproductive physiology and endocrinology of domestic animals. Moreover students must know transgenesis biotechnologies utilised for the modification of animal genome.

Course contents

Life cycle of mammals. Infancy, puberty and reproductive phase. Endocrine regulation  of sexual function in female and male. The oestrous cycle, ovulation, corpus luteum. Follicle waves. The different types of anoestrus. Hypothalamus –pituitary -gonad axe.  Fertilisation. Maternal recognition of pregnancy. Embryonic development till blastocyst formation. Pregnancy. Delivery. Lactation and weaning .Transgene biotechnology. Male pronucleus microinjection and sperm mediated gene transfer .  Characterization of transgenic animal. Breeding and reproduction. Potential application of the transgenic animals.
