Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student masters the basic knowledge of microeconomic theory and he/she is able to participate with sufficient precision and critical view to the economic/politcal debate. In particular, the student: knows the theory of decisions under certainty, uncertainty and strategic interaction; understands with sufficient precision the working of the markets and is able to give an evaluation in terms of their efficiency; understands the problem of market failures and the possible solutions; understands the problem of social choice.

Teaching methods

Each argument will be followed by the study of particularly relevant cases. A tutor shall meet the students each week.

Assessment methods

  • Three written partial exams, each focusing on specific parts of the course, and a written final exam, on the whole program. 
  • The final score is a weighted average of the scores of the three partial exams and of the final exam (the weight of the latter is 70% ).
  • If the average score of the three partial exams is not smaller than 18, in the final exam the student must answer to 4 questions. Otherwise the student must answer to 6 questions. In any case, the final exam lasts 2 hours.
