- Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Mechanical Engineering (cod. 0949)
Learning outcomes
The module allows the student to analise the design principles of mechanical plants, defining the methodologies for their proper economic and technical selection. The course describes the design criteria (schemes, equations and rules) both on the technical point of view and on the economical point of view.
Course contents
Mechanical plants characterisation. Technical-economical optimisation methods.
Fire safety engineering. Hydrant and sprinkler plants design criteria. Automatic suppression fire plants (water, foam and gas extinguishers), portable equipments. Water mist fire plants. Fire alarm systems, fire alarm monitoring, smoke, heat & carbon monoxide detectors. Evacuation model simulation. Fire dynamic simulation.
Piping networks item: classification and selection of pipes, valves and coupling. Regulation, intercept and check valve operation. Open and close water network design. Supply and distribution of industrial water. Pressurized and un-pressurized water storage tanks, water pressurization systems, condensate.
Industrial steam production and distribution: steam generator operation, steam distribution networks, recovery and drain systems. Compressed air production and distribution: compressor system design, condensate drain systems, air network distribution.
Combined heat and power plants.
