27543 - Molecular Genetics Laboratory

Academic Year 2010/2011

  • Docente: Giuseppe Gargiulo
  • Credits: 3
  • SSD: BIO/18
  • Language: Italian
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Molecular and cellular biology (cod. 8021)

Learning outcomes

The aim of this intensive course is to introduce students to molecular methodologies underlying functional genetics. Participants will be able to understand and plan experimental strategies to analize gene function through the use of transgenic animals.

Course contents

Laboratory experiences will illustrate how molecular genetic applications and experimental strategies are used in the context of a specific biological problem.

Readings/Bibliography

Experimental protocol and scientific articles.

Teaching methods

Lectures focusing on the specific biological problem and on evaluation of different experimental approaches. Each student will perform the selected experimental plan. Lab activity will be followed by discussion of the results.

Assessment methods

Laboratory report that describes the specific biological problem,  experimental plan and interprets the obtained results.

Teaching tools

Protocols describing the daily experimental procedures will be supplied to each student. All reagents and instruments will be provided.
