Learning outcomes
The course aims to introduce the study of the sociological theories of globalisation, with particular reference to the dynamics of cultural identity, the theories of multiculturalism, new identity conflicts, the risks of ethnocentrism and relativism, the problem of secularism.
Course contents
1. Does globalisation exist?; 2. The sociological theories of globalisation: critical, functionalist, neoliberal; 3. Justice in a global world; 4. Multicultural ideology; 5. The fate of national cultures; 6. The historical and civil background of modern Europe; 7. Fundamentalism and modernity; 8. Religion and politics.
