Learning outcomes

This course trains students to:

Know the pre and postharvest disorders of plant products and their symptoms; evaluatethe effects of disorders on the quality and on the contamination, by toxic compounds, of fresh plant products.

Course contents

Pre and Post-harvest losses. Elements of phytopathology.diseases due to hyperthermia,chilling and freezing,water,meterological and environmental pollutants. Etiology, pathogenesis and symptoms.

Teaching methods

The course will be based on lectures and laboratory exercises with the presentation of slides and diseased vegetable products to teach the students the diagnose of the main disorders. Study tour to field and packing houses will be organized to provide them with real-life expertise.

Assessment methods

The oral examination will consist of 2 – 3 questions on the subjects taught in the course

Teaching tools

Slides of severals disorders; visit to packing houses and crops.
