Course contents

The course will provide the students with a basic knowledge of the origins of English history in the medieval period, which saw the beginning of the English language and literature. The course will start from the end of the Roman domination of Britain (in the early fifth century) and will take into account the impact of the Anglo-Saxon migrations, the Viking attacks, the Norman Conquest of 1066, the issue of Magna Charta and the origins of Parliament, thus covering the whole medieval period. Special attention will be paid to the events which influenced the origins and development of the English language and culture.
