CNP Projects – Logistic development for the agri-food, fishing and aquaculture sectors
The University of Bologna’s projects relating to logistic development for the agri-food, fishing and aquaculture sectors (National Complementary Plan CNP investment H.1 - Complementarity with M2C1 under the NRRP).
Agri-food sector
By notice no. 182458 dated 22/04/2022, as amended, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry (MASAF) published the V call for applications for the creation of so-called contratti di filiera (supply chain contracts) in the agri-food industry, intended for businesses that are directly involved in the production, picking, processing and marketing of agricultural and agri-food products and for suppliers of services and means of production. Universities are identified as recipients of the contracts.
The scope of the agricultural supply chain agreements – executed at a local, supra-regional level and aimed at creating a nationally relevant integrated programme – will cover the following investments:
- Investments in tangible assets and intangible assets in farms for primary agricultural production;
- Investments for agricultural product processing and agricultural product marketing;
- Investments regarding processing of agricultural products into agri-food products;
- Participation of agricultural producers in quality schemes and agricultural product promotional measures;
- Organisation of and participation in competitions, trade fairs and exhibitions;
- Research and development projects in the agricultural sector;
- Participation in trade fairs and for investments to promote the production of renewable energy by processing businesses.
The initiative is funded under the National Plan for Complementary Investments to the NRRP and total funding amounts to €1.230 billion. The eligible budget for supply chain contracts is between €4 million and 50 million.
The University of Bologna’s projects
The University co-submitted four project proposals through the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences (DIMEVET) and the Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences (DISTAL).
Both Departments are recognised as beneficiaries of the supply chain contracts, together with their respective partners.
The following three projects have been awarded funding:
Sustmilk4IT – Applications of metagenomics in longitudinal field studies, from farm to fork, to identify strategies for improving the sustainability of the dairy cow and milk supply chain

SUS-tain – Environmental and integrated sustainability in the pig supply chain

- Duration: 48 months
Fishing and aquaculture sector
By decree no. 300946/2022, as amended, the MASAF published a call for applications for the creation of so-called contratti di filiera (supply chain contracts) in the fishing and aquaculture industry.
Universities are identified as recipients of the contracts.
The interventions eligible for funding include investments for businesses directly involved in fishing and aquaculture, fish processing and marketing, as well as in regional, national or transnational communication and promotion activities and research and development projects in the fishing sector.
The initiative is funded under the National Plan for Complementary Investments to the NRRP and total funding amounts to €50 million. The eligible budget for supply chain contracts is €7.5 million.
The University of Bologna’s project
The University co-submitted one project proposal through the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences (DIMEVET), recognised as a beneficiary of the supply chain contract together with the other partners.
The project has been awarded funding.
