Special collections

Most of our library collections of distinguished scholars, consisting of published materials and also personal documents (correspondence, photos, notes, etc.), as the result of donations and bequests, will not be available until the as yet undetermined return to the Library historic location.

  • Ravaglia Collection (at the Management Offices of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering)

Luciano Antonetti Collection

Donated to the Library by the journalist Luciano Antonetti, it consists of about 1500 books, periodicals and extracts largely about the history of Czechoslovakia, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic and the history of the communist movement in Europe in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. It includes personal notes, typescripts of published and unpublished works, articles, correspondence, photos, dissertations and a small collection of stamps, banknotes and coins.
Books are available for loan; dictionaries, periodicals and offprints are for use in the Library only.

Rosa Maria Bollettieri Bosinelli Collection

Donated to the Library by the daughter of Rosa Maria Bollettieri Bosinelli, Professor of English Language at the former School of Modern Languages ​​for Interpreters and Translators, it consists of about 1300 books, 450 dvds, periodicals and extracts, dealing with cinema, translation and literature, with particular reference to James Joyce. 
It also includes personal notes and working materials.

Lino Ravaglia Collection

Donated to the Library by the Engineer Lino Ravaglia, it consists of about 130 books, published between the 50s and the early 2000s, which deal with aeronautical engineering: aerodynamics, flight mechanics, aerotechnics, design and construction, helicopters, propellers, Aermacchi and aircraft.
The collection is located at the Management Offices of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Degree Courses in Via Montaspro 97 and it is available for loan after telephone contact.

Bernard Benstock Collection

Donated by the wife of the American scholar Bernard Benstock to the Department of Interpretation and Translation - DIT, the collection consists of about 1500 documents including the works of James Joyce,  novels and essays of the twentieth-century with particular reference to modernism, female writing and feminist criticism. One particularly rich and interesting section contains books and essays on detective fiction.

Pasquale Fantini Collection

Donated by the wife of Pasquale Fantini, Professor of French language at the former School of Modern Languages for Interpreters and Translators, it  consists of about 400 books about French literature, language, culture and history. 

Luigi Heilmann Collection

Donated to the Library by the heirs of the linguist Luigi Heilmann, it amounts to over 4000 books and more than 200 periodicals about linguistics, glottology, dialect studies, semantics, philology, prosody, metrics, foreign languages and Greek, Latin and Italian literature.

Henry Huttenbach Collection

Donated to the Library by Henry Huttenbach, Professor of History at the City University of New York, it consists of about 3000 books and journals, dealing with Russian history, language and culture, Judaism and genocide. It also includes rare and ancient books. 

Don Francesco Ricci Collection

Donated to the Library by the heirs of Don Francesco Ricci, founder of Student Youth and the Centre for East European Studies (CSEO), it consists of about 2000 books and periodicals, dealing with the culture and institutions of Eastern European countries, the role of the Catholic Church in Eastern Europe and the political and cultural situation of the Balkans. It also contains personal notes, manuscripts, typescripts of published and unpublished works and correspondence. All the information to consult Ricci's personal document collection (shelf mark RICCI ARCH) are available on the page Consultation of document collections.  

Luigi Rosiello Collection

Donated by the linguist Luigi Rosiello’s family to the Department of Interpretation and Translation - DIT, it consists of 2600 books and periodicals and 1800 extracts about linguistics, dialect studies, philosophy of language, history of language and psycholinguistics.

Roberto Ruffilli Collection

Donated to the Library by the heirs of Senator Roberto Ruffilli, it consists of  about 5000 books, periodicals and extracts dealing with politics, the history of movements and political institutions, modern and contemporary history.

Luigi Schenoni Collection

Donated to the Library by Marisa Burattini, it is the personal collection of Luigi Schenoni, the only Italian translator of James Joyce's Finnegans Wake. It consists of about 1000 volumes of literature, literary criticism and linguistics, dictionaries and periodicals. Philippe Schmitter Collection

Donated to the Library by Philippe Schmitter, professor of Political Science at the European University Institute of Fiesole, it includes about 500 books, periodicals and extracts, mainly about political, economic and social matters in Latin America. It also contains personal notes, correspondence and typescripts of published and unpublished works. All the information to consult Schmitter's personal document collection (shelf mark SCHM ARCH) are available on the page Consultation of document collections

Erio Sughi Collection

Donated to the Library by the heirs of the poet, critic and translator, Erio Sughi, it consists of about 800 books and periodicals dealing with foreign languages and literatures.
